Time for Kofi to Gofi
Unpublished - Time for Kofi to Gofi, by Alan Helvig
Kofi Annan has once again proven to the entire world that he is not the right man for leading the United Nations. Once again, he is making claims against a sovereign nation, which are unfounded, unsubstantiated and untrue. When the Israelis hit a UN observation post and killed four UN observers, Annan immediately accused them of deliberately targeting the UN observers. Where oh where is your proof? Where oh where is your evidence? Where oh where is your brain Kofi Annan?
Kofi was shocked; Kofi was distressed; and Kofi was off his rocker as he lobbed his wild allegations at Israel. He reminds me of a little kid who loses his own candy, then runs around the house accusing everyone else of stealing it. It must have been Johnny, because he looks fatter than he did an hour ago. It must have been Suzy, because she was washing something sticky off of her fingers. It must have been Rover, because he is hiding behind the couch. It wasn't Johnny or Suzy and Rover isn't hiding because he did something wrong. He is hiding from the stupidity that comes attached to making childish, false allegations.
This incident reminds me of the time Kofi Annan said that the US-led invasion of Iraq was an 'illegal act that contravened the UN charter'. Once again, Annan publicly and falsely accused a sovereign nation of wrong-doing. The actions of the United States were not only legal, but they were sanctioned by the UN Security Council. In fact, they were sanctioned by the UN repeatedly over the previous 12 years.
UNSCR #1441 clearly recalled the details of the previous UNSC resolutions 'authorizing member states to use all necessary means to uphold and implement its resolution 660 (1990)'. UNSCR #1441 (2002) clearly recognized 'the threat Iraq's non-compliance with Council resolutions and proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and long-range missiles poses to international peace and security'. Just which part of the UN Security Council Resolution #1441 of November 8, 2002 was Kofi calling 'illegal'?
Kofi Annan is a bigger threat to world peace than the terrorists in Iraq. His inability to effectively lead the UN and his childish demeanor are reason enough to dismiss him from his post. Don't even get me started on the whole oil for food scandal. When are the world leaders going to wake up and do what needs to be done? When are they going to demand Annan's resignation? When are they going to remove him and replace him with someone smart enough and mature enough to handle the job?
I have said it before and I will say it again... It is time to get the US out of the UN and the UN out of the US. If you can't get rid of the nut, then you must get rid of the tree!

The Difference between Mel Gibson and Kofi Annan is that Gibson can blame the Tequila.
Put another way: impartiality is like virginity; once you lose it, it is gone forever.
On July 25, 2006, a United Nations observation station in southern Lebanon, trapped between the warring combatants, was hit apparently by Israeli action. Three peacekeepers were killed.
This terrible tragedy brought inconsolable grief to the families of those lost, to the greater UN family and to the families of military men and women everywhere.
But the tragedy also brought home two question; the first being what were they doing there and the second being, why did the Secretary General of the UN automatically blame the Israelis for intentionally attacking the outpost?
Mel Gibson can blame the Tequila. Kofi Annan has nobody to blame but himself.
Impartiality does not - and must not - mean neutrality in the face of evil; it means strict and unbiased adherence to the principles of the [UN] Charter - nothing more, and nothing less. Those words were written by Kofi Annan in an essay with the title “Impartiality does not mean neutrality,” published in The Independent (London), on January 22, 1999.
We deplore the revered Secretary General’s loss of impartiality. The world accepted his apology. But the impartiality, once lost, is gone forever. The Secretary General must reevaluate himself and rededicated himself and the organization he leads to the principles so ably set out in the UN charter.
The other question in this sad affair is this, as the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (Unifil) was re-chartered for another month by the UN just yesterday, what were the Unifil observers doing in a “hot” war zone in Lebanon on July 25?
“Peacekeepers, “observers” and “international monitors” can easily become unwitting casualties when nations lose their ability to dialogue peacefully and elect to wage war.
Unifil needs to be managed adroitly to prevent another unfortunate event in the days and weeks ahead. The UN has responsibility for the safety of its observers in the field in time of war.
The Difference between Mel Gibson and Kofi Annan is that Gibson can blame the Tequila....
