Published October 17, 2005 - Get serious about illegal aliens
The number one threat to national security here at home is illegal immigration. There are more than 10 million illegal aliens living in America. While true that the majority of them are just average people looking for work to provide a better life, there is a large criminal contingent infiltrating our country every day. Their intent is not to improve the quality of living for their families. They are clearly entering the United States for the purpose of conducting criminal and/or terrorist acts against you and your way of life.
Some of the illegal aliens are involved in drug trafficking, while some are involved in other forms of smuggling. There has been a significant increase in the level of gang activities all across America as a direct result of illegal immigration. Too many of them come into this country and commit heinous crimes, like rape and murder. Many of these criminals flee across the border, where they are protected from extradition back to the United States for prosecution.
There are staggering numbers of illegal aliens coming up through Mexico who are not from Mexico. Many of them come from Central America, but there has also been a significant increase in the number of Arabs infiltrating our southern border. The unanswered question remains: How many of these criminals are actually terrorists working their way into the fabric of our society? How many of these people are Islamic extremists whose intent is to lay in wait until the time of their choosing, when they can carry out a terrorist attack on American soil?
The presence of illegal aliens in America is also eating away at the economic stability of many institutions, such as education and medicine. States are constantly sucking up the cost of providing for and caring for these people. As the states drain their resources, they turn to the federal government for financial assistance.
These criminals are in essence, stealing our tax dollars. The total cost of this endeavor is enough to make one sick. Whether the illegal alien comes here to work or to prey on our citizens, they are still here illegally. They have to break the law to get into this country. They have to break the law to stay in this country. They have to break the law to work in this country. And, they break a number of laws on a daily basis while living in this country. This behavior proves that they have no respect for our laws or for the authorities who uphold those laws.
Without law and order, there can be no discipline. Without discipline, there can only be chaos. You can't build personal relationships on lies and you can't build citizenship on illegal activities. Those who enter this country without proper documentation are guilty of committing crimes. This makes them criminals, not citizens.
The American employers who hire illegal aliens are equally guilty of committing crimes. These two groups of criminals feed each other's desire and intent to break the laws of this land on a daily basis. In order to stop the flow of illegal aliens into America, both groups will have to be held accountable for their crimes.
Unfortunately, our government and our authorities are soft on illegal immigration. In fact, there are only three states in the country that mandate their state and local authorities to enforce federal immigration laws when they come into contact with illegal aliens. Michigan is not one of the three. There are even a number of cities and states in the country which have become safe havens for these criminals. Some local authorities have gone to the extreme of ordering their officers not to ask for information which may identify these people as illegal aliens.
How can we expect the criminals to respect our laws if our own government won't enforce them? America is supposed to be the great melting pot. We invite people to come to American from just about every country in the world. There can be no confusing immigrants with illegal aliens. We should have no tolerance for harassing foreigners and immigrants who are here legally. After all, how can we expect anyone to respect us, if we don't respect them or the laws for which we stand? The problem is not immigration or immigrants. The problem is illegal aliens.
It is time for America to start caring about this issue. It is time for Americans to respond to this national crisis. It is time for us to contact our senators and representatives demanding an end to the flood of illegal entries. We must take a stand for the sake of ourselves and for our children. It is time to stop this assault on our country and our way of life.
